"Villagers of Ioannina invented the psychedelic heavy post-rock stoner, and the first album of the genre already sets very high level. An astonishing and explosive mix."

Previously authors of a first album "Riza" in 2014, the Greeks of Villagers Of Ioannina and native of ... Ioannina, present their second opus at the beginning of 2020. Accustomed to surprise their audience with a very personal post-rock stoner, the five musicians are releasing this "Age Of Aquarius" which is eagerly awaited by a fan base that has been conquered since the beginning, and for good reasons.

Their post-stoner is characterized by the contribution of atypical instruments such as clarinet, which trusts most of the solos, bagpipes and kamal (traditional Balkan flute). But get this image of sirtaki dancers out of your mind right away, it's a long way off. The guitars are heavy and haunting, in a pure stoner style, the rhythmics are evolving in a modern post-rock spirit, with a roaring bass ('Millennium Blues'), and the expressive vocals of Alex Karametis look at the alternative side of modern rock. On 'Father Sun' he reminds with pleasure of the French Far From The Sun on the album of the same name, and has a delicate accent similar to his compatriots from Wastefall.

The tracks 'constructions are based on repetitive and slowly evolving structures that produce that hypnotic and addictive trance heavy post rock fans appreciate. Even 'Cosmic Soul', whose bass line evokes the crazy pop of the 90's, is full of stylistic evolutions with the progressive thickening of its expressions to end up with a heavy riff overflown by particularly inspired solos. As for the energetic ''For The innocent'' it mixes frenzied stoner and bagpipe riffs (yes, yes, it's possible) to a heady rock melody.

This bagpipe, very present on 'Dance of Night' and 'Father Sun' brings more psychedelia than folklore and the shadow of The Doors hangs over a good half of the tracks in the transcendental exploration of emotions against the back of a dreamlike journey. The psychedelic melodies with tribal accents as well as an inhabited singing and dark ambiances often make us think of Tool who gathers the greatest number around his original experiments.

These villagers practice a mixture of original and very personal genres. This particularity of sound and creativity imposes itself as a distinctive mark and an identity of its own. Let's hope to find this authenticity very quickly because the pleasure of listening is real and immediate as long as you appreciate the heavy post-rock ambiences, the psychedelic atmospheres and that you are ready to discover horizons which seem still unexplored. And that's the main attraction of this "Age Of Aquarius",  the originality of its writing and the intelligence of its arrangements. So, open your chakras, warm up your cervicals and enjoy this astonishing and explosive mix.

DEPRAVED: Raped Innocence (2020)
DEATH METAL - With 'Raped Innocence', Depraved signs an impressive firework. It offers the best of a brutal death tinged with grind, perfectly mastered with an enjoyable violence, a cold side that freezes the blood and a disturbing atmosphere.
DREADFUL HIPPIES: Rover (2020)
ROCK - Dreadful Hippies distills a dynamic heavy rock sound while revealing a more sophisticated side.
