With "Contagium", Arena lays the last stone of the "Contagion" building. By itself, this EP does not present a phenomenal interest with three original tracks that must be placed according to the instructions between the pieces of "Contagion" completed by "Contagious", a totally incongruous puzzle exercise...
"On the Edge of Despair", just like "March of Time" are correct tracks in the band's discography, but only find their real dimension placed in their global context. The excellent instrumental "Confrontation" once again allows you to appreciate John Mitchell's impeccable sound.
The integrated bonuses are of very unequal value as you find song texts (we would have preferred a printed version, more accessible), "vocal ghosts" whose only interest - for fans - is to hear John Mitchell behind the microphone, and some extras like wallpapers (Mac-users, go your way, this part is not accessible to you, no more than the storyboard of the album explaining the script of Contagion, which is quite obscure). To this, we must add a very dispensable remix of Salamander, completely off topic.
We are therefore rather perplexed by "Contagium", as well as by "Contagious", by the way. Very little interesting material, and above all, why did they split the work "Contagion" into three disparate segments rather than deliver a coherent and magnificent whole? We know Clive Nolan's aversion to double albums ( "Contagion - The Max" has long been demanded by fans), but here we can't excuse this false good idea that led to the release of a dismantled work. Fortunately, with the release of this last fragment, amateurs can reconstitute the magnificent ensemble that is "Contagion" in its complete version and in order, which deserves a 9/10 with mention!
