"Influenced by AC/DC, Motorhead and 70's rock, "Heat Wave" is a record full of contagious energy."

If AC/DC had decided to change his sex, he could be called Thundermother. Of course, wanting to make these Swedish tigresses a simple female version of our favourite kangaroos is reductive but the fact is that it seems quite difficult not to think of the Australians when listening to their music! An identical energy, an penchant for simple and catchy melodies and a guitarist plugged directly into 220 volts justify this filiation. But that's not the only influence that the Scandinavians claim, since Motörhead, 70s rock or blues rock can also be heard.
If "Thundermother" sounded like a new start for Filipa Nässil's band who had to replace 4/5th of his crew at the last minute, it is a tightly knit and, hopefully, permanently fixed formation which comes back this time two years later with this much awaited fifth album. This regained stability is best illustrated by the fact that, for the first time, the whole combo took part in the writing of "Heat Wave".
If, benefiting from the magical hand of Danish producer Soren Andersen (Mike Tramp, Glenn Hughes), this music is not revolutionary, at least this one offers a menu more solid than ever. The shadow of Angus Young's band always covers our furious ladies, of course. 'Free Ourselves' and its typical AC/DC bites, 'Ghosts' and especially 'Driving In Style', whose title sounds like a profession of faith, can't fool us.
But more sophisticated (some might say softer) and crawling finery distinguishes their compositions from those of their elders. Our young, vivacious women like to pull the handbrake handle ('Dog From Hell', 'Heat Wave', 'Bad Habits'). On the other hand, they are less interested in curling up tenderly and only the ballad 'Sleep' sees them retract their claws. Guernica Mancina's warm and powerful vocals are no stranger to this anchorage in the US Hard Rock and the Bayous of the blues, as illustrated by the tracks 'Mexico' and 'Purple Sky'.
The result is an offering with an energy that is as contagious as ever, the fruit of a true group effort that allows the Swedish women to climb a step. These girls still have something to say, which augurs well. - Official website
