"Even if the band seems somewhat constrained to remain confined in a style that it masters remarkably well, "Fireworker" has a strong addictive power thanks to its melancholic aspects."

Gazpacho is like a good friend that we see regularly and with an unfailing pleasure. Two years after "Soyuz", it is with a "Fireworker" that he comes knocking at our door. "You haven't changed" is the first remark that comes to mind during this reunion: on the formation side, the Norwegian band has lost its drummer Lars Erik Asp, replaced by the one who played at the beginning, Robert Johansen.
On the music side, Gazpacho do what it knows to do best: Gazpacho. Very centered around the voice of Jan-henrik Ohme, the atmospheres remain without surprise in the calm and the cozy, with melancholic melodies which reach their fullness in the superb 'Sapien' which closes the album. Immersion guaranteed. Ohme possesses a kind of vocal fragility (found in Sylvan's Marko Glühmann, or Carptree's Niklas Flink) that brings a lot of sensitivity in this tight context. The same emotion oozes from the excellent 'Hourglass' and 'Antique', and even in the beginning of 'Space Cowboy' where Gazpacho remains comfortably in his safe values. He perfectly masters the ability to lead the listener through the emotional side.
When he tries to escape from this well-defined framework, things get a bit spoiled: the title track, by proposing a vaguely oriental atmosphere on a more dynamic background, falls a bit flat with its uninspired theme in which neither the musicians nor the singer seem very comfortable. It is also by wanting to propose a rupture, by using the solemn choruses which had done wonders in the suite 'Tick Tock', that Gazpacho makes too much of it: artificial in 'Space Cowboy' where they appear as a necessary passage, they are completely irrelevants on a 'Hourglass' which is moreover a marvel of delicacy, in particular with its passage of violin in weightlessness.
This only very occasionally spoils the obvious pleasure of letting oneself drift into the absorbing universe of Gazpacho, even if the group seems somewhat constrained to remain confined in a style that it masters remarkably well. - Official website
