It is after 5 years of absence that the quartet of Tool stats over with the very awaited "10,000 days". First of all, the buyer will know to its right value the effort of packaging deployed by the group: 3-D glasses which allow to consider the cover from a quite another point of view. This idea is repeated throughout the album, with this music that undeniably tends to stand out from other productions of the year.

After this pleasant visual discovery, it's time for our ears to be filled with it. The compositions which will retain our particular interest will be certainly the titles with the very wrought atmospheres as the 'Wings for Marie (part I)', '10,000 days (wings part II)' or even the tones of Indian rituals of 'Right in Two'. Next to the ever more elaborated and ominous guitars is the bewitching voice of Maynard James Keenan. You may have noticed him in his parallel project A perfect Circle. Terribly dark and gloomy, his voice contains this hint of melancholy and controlled aggressiveness that fits perfectly with the rhythms used.

If the theme is definitely Indian and mystical, there are still some heavier gems 'Vicarious' and 'Jambi'. Let us also underline the excellent work of the drummer Danny Carey who without falling in the grandiloquent or the useless uses his instrument with a precision of metronome.

If we had to reproach only one thing to this musical marvel, it would be in the organization of the various titles. Indeed, the tracks 'Lipan Conjuring' and 'Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)' are soft and calm interludes that break the progression of the album. Respectively pieces 6 and 7 of the album, it would have been more shrewd to place them at the beginning and at the end of CD to calm the excitement accumulated in our ears.

Finally, Tool succeeds a daring bet. Mystical atmospheres, guitars which mix softness and rage without ambiguity... The four Americans reach here undoubtedly the apogee of their career. Five years after a "Lateralus" welcomed by the chronicle as a marvel of the genre, "10,000 days" will delight the fans and will convert the most reluctant. A must to have under any circumstances.

ANGRA: Aurora Consurgens (2006)
MELODIC METAL - "Aurora Consurgens" is an excellent album, less direct than "Temple Of Shadows", but more homogeneous and shorter, that should allow Angra not only to keep a place apart in the metal scene but also to hope to win new listeners.
