The Alpha Structure is a reunion of five Oregon musicians whose music juxtaposes disturbing ambiences and murderous riffs, but also complex rhythms. The band offers their first EP, "7 Deadly Sins", which can be seen as a fusion of technic and dark fury.
This intensity is expressed in powerful chords ('Grudges') or in the production that envelops the ears and builds an almost palpable wall of sound. The violence is also intensified by the sometimes extreme slowdowns of '4 Deadly Sins' where time seems suspended, or those of 'Return To Earth' which crushes like a steamroller. This heaviness is however lit up by passages with a powerful groove or by a varied aggressive vocals ('4 Deadly Sins' and 'The Red') that navigate between high-pitched, almost black screams and low vocals in the lineage of an old school death metal.
The record sometimes wants to move away from this pure violence by ing almost progressive elements, as when the varied rhythms borrow motifs from the djent, or with accelerations and decelerations ('The Red', 'This Is Endless'). 'Breathe' is not to be outdone, as it displays a beautiful drum work with a very mastered double pedal game. Finally to stick to a certain modernity, 'In Circles' supports its fury with a icy artificial rhythm.
The band colors his music with dark and worrying ambiences ('4 Deadly Sins' with cold keyboards, icy synthetic chords on 'The Red' or the frightening introduction of 'Grudges'). The synthesizers play an essential role, as in the central part of 'In Circles', whose sounds are worthy of a gothic cathedral or on 'Return To Earth' where almost soft, they contrast with the fury of the guitars.
"7 Deadly Sins" is based on an extreme aggressiveness, carried by an intelligence of composition that allows him to break the limits of his style. This difference is expressed in the rhythmic variations close to the djent or in passages with cold synthesizers worthy of gothic metal (Crematory). Even if "7 Deadly Sins" is very square, it manages to extract itself from the canons of its style to bring a welcome breeze of freshness. - Official website
