"The arrival of Madie to the vocals gives a second youth to a band which signs with "Aeternam" a nice missile of heavy thrash metal."

By welcoming Magali Luyten into their ranks in 2016, Nightmare team had taken a risk. Changing singer is never easy, moreover the musical tone changed on a sympathetic but sometimes linear "Dead Sun", especially with Magali's muscular vocals. The reception had been nevertheless rather good and the tour showed a welded group. But Magali left the adventure in April 2019 as did drummer Olivier Casula. Visibly a little shaken, Yves Campion and his partners took the time to restart the machine.
Nightmare went looking for a new singer in the rock metal scene with Madie who evolved in Faith Of Agony. The result of this new departure is called "Aeternam". "Dead Sun" lacked melody with a too present thrash side. Nevertheless, we felt that not much was missing for the magic to come back. From the beginning with 'Temple Of Acheron' the change is perceptible. The power is there with a strong heavy thrash tone, but with her vocals, Madi takes the band to another dimension, she pushes in the treble in a pure heavy style.
The following confirms this perfect start. On several titles the balance of forces between heavy and thrash is wonderfully done. 'Divine Nemesis', 'The Passenger' or 'Downfall Of A Tyrant', 'Aeternam' and 'Black September' are formidable nuggets, making think of Megadeth or Testament for the thrash aspects in the riffs and Accept and Maiden for the epic side and speed in the solos. Madie varies her vocals: her melodic tone evokes Unleash The Archers or Kobra & The Lotus, and when she goes wild, she comes close to Nevermore. We'll appreciate the pinch of growl at the end of the record which brings a lot of extra power.
With these titles the record is successful. But it still rises in force with a melodic side taking advantage of Madie's talent. 'Lights On' leans towards Van Halen and his 'Ain't Talking About Love' on the intro. Direct and fresh, it's a catchy hit served by a mastered technical solo. We'll also bring out 'Crystal Lake', an efficient power ballad full of feeling and good epic passages. 'Anneliese' is a convoluted track encompassing all the qualities of the band, swinging between thrash, heavy power and strong melodies with a remarkable progressive and lyrical tone and a perfect alchemy between growl and Madie's vocals.
One can clearly speak of a return in strength and form for Nightmare. "Aeternam" sees him regaining beautiful colors and the spirit of a glorious past. He seems to have found the ideal recruit who allows him to become again this perfect heavy thrash alchemist. - Official website
