Confirming the alternation between his projects, Dushan Petrossi is back with Iron Mask one year after having proposed "MetAlmighty" with Magic Kingdom. The Belgian guitarist is productive and so far he has achieved a remarkable career. Released in 2016, "Diabolica" was an excellent vintage of neo-classical melodic power. We expect from "Master Of Masters", the band's seventh album, that it will continue to delight us in a demanding genre and keep a faithful audience. Since "Diabolica", the line-up has further evolved, Diego Valdez leaving the microphone to Mike Slembrouck, also singer of the Belgian band After All.
"Master Of Masters" does not try to mislead us, its cover does not leave any doubt, the record is anchored in a neo-classical heavy metal. The strength of the formation lies in the perfect balance between the members. Dushan is a virtuoso but he doesn't crush his partners and lets his singer express himself freely.
This gives moments of tasty bravery. Dushan's guitar marries marvelously with the timbre of a Mike worthy of the great singers of the genre, between Jorn Lande and Doogie White. Iron Mask offers us in the majority of the titles the best in neo-classical metal. We find the catchy side, unstoppable choruses, melodic riffs and technical solos breathtaking but never boring.
Iron Mask offers us real nuggets that take the record to another dimension. 'Nothing Lasts Forever' is a major piece. Over more than 9 minutes, the listener swims between symphonic, neo-classical and heavy. The choruses are perfect, as are the riffs and solos delivered by a goldsmith of the genre. Next to this moment of grace, we must also notice 'Mist Of Loch Ness' which mixes remarkably neo-classical heavy metal, epic and Celtic. Finally, with 'A Mother Loved Blue', Iron Mask offers a beautiful catchy ballad carried by a remarkable Mike and a great solo.
With 'Master Of Masters', Iron Mask confirms a dazzling talent in neo-classical heavy metal. Through hard work, Dushan Petrossi gets to the top with a record that restores faith in the genre. - Official website
