Contrary to what we might think, Chile is home to countless hard rock bands. Curiously, in terms of heavy and melodic metal, their number is just over half a dozen. Sinner's Blood, a newcomer to the scene, is one of them. His first opus is proposed to us today and is called "The Mirror Star".
The leaders of this combo are James Robledo and Nasson. The first is a singer who has been in two progressive metal bands, Renegade and Thabu. The second is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, having worked with Caterina Nix on the last two albums of Chaos Magic (Chilean progressive metal band).
Power and melody are the strength of this album. Robledo has all the qualities to enter the closed circle of the most talented singers of the moment. Following in the footsteps of a Russel Allen (Symphony X, Allen/Lande) or a Ronnie Romero (Lords Of Black, The Ferrymen), he is impressive by his power and his interpretation. Around him, the musicians plays well their score but we can ask ourselves if that this disc was not conceived around the voice of his frontman.
As for the references, Masterplan, Evergrey and DGM come to mind in the eleven tracks that dot this album. Note however that Sinner's Blood doesn't add any progressive touches. The style is compact, heavy, powerful and epic but choruses sung by Robledo manage to make a prominent place in the middle of the sound maelstrom. 'The Mirror', 'Phoenix Rise', 'The Hunting' and 'Kill Or Die' are perfect examples. The only soothing moment in this work is 'Forever', a crunchy ballad very close to Dream Theater. But let's save the best for the end and let's finally quote 'Remember Me' which could be accused of FM melodic metal as its chorus is so addictive.
Chile has just offered us, with this "The Mirror Star", a beautiful object. After the last albums from the Australians of Vanishing Point and from the Italians of DGM, Sinner's Blood strikes hard in its turn in this autumn. Melodic metal is still alive ! - Official website
