A year after a first EP noticed, the French duo The Twin Souls comes back to present us their second EP entitled "II". Originally from France, the brothers Martin and Guilhem Marcos draw their influences from the Beatles or T-Rex, the big names of the sixties, and, closer to us, from the Americans of The Black Keys with whom they share a pronounced taste for blues rock with a pop tendency.
Privileging quality over quantity, the brothers prefered the EP format, more favourable to close releases and better adapted to the current model of music consumption. This last mini album includes five tracks for a very (too) short duration of 17 minutes. As a result, the tracks are direct and their efficiency is immediate. Without surprise the sounds remind the artists mentioned above but the compositions carry the "The Twin Souls" touch with an already well asserted personality, made of this osmosis on the vocals that the two brothers share. And this complementarity goes much further on stage where Martin and Guilhem do not hesitate to exchange their instruments which often delights the public. The performance is all the more remarkable as Martin is right-handed and Guilhem left-handed.
Another remarkable specificity is that the duo does without bass most of the time thanks to a guitar sound tuned low enough to "simulate" the bass. However, the music of the duo is not minimalist and the arrangements are finely chiseled, giving a particular relief to each piece. The blues rock riffs are filled with emotion on 'Hey Hey' reminding the Beatles, or with pure rock energy on 'Keep Keep' in a style close to The Black Keys, as on the addictive introductive 'Ch Ch Chewa'. Because this is one of the best assets of the band, this immediacy that makes you instantly appreciate their simple and efficient rock. One taps one's foot and quickly hums the melodies.
With an exemplary freshness in a oldies style, The Twin Souls confirms all the good that the environment thinks of them. Let's bet that their rhythm of releases will reserve us a good surprise in the months to come, in addition to being able to see them on stage very quickly. - Official website
