""Black Magic" is a frankly unstoppable opus, coming from the most enjoyable hard rock of the 70's!"

Fans of vintage (hard) rock will be happy to meet "Souls Of Tide" once again after a "Join The Circus" which, four years ago already, unveiled a band that seemed to come from the 70's. Admittedly, nothing really distinguishes the Norwegians from the other nostalgics of their species. Listening to them, one can guess that they were huge fans of Led Zep as well as Deep Purple or Rainbow and Uriah Heep. Full of feeling, the vocals is very close to Robert Plant and David Coverdale, the organ could be the one of Jon Lord or Ken Hensley, the rhythmic grooves with a big G and the guitar spits out sharp melodies like Blackmore of the golden age ('Morning Star', 'Black Magic') while knowing how to show a bluesy emotion that the late Gary Moore would not deny ('Interlude').

And if we are allowed to wonder about this fashion, which consists in reproducing what our elders did, we have to admit that Souls Of Tide really rises above the rest. In addition to his ability to grasp what made the strength and charm of this hot and vitamin-packed 70s rock, he owes this feat to the quality of his compositions, all of which shine with a thousand lights. Among the first, let us quote 'Voodoo Ritual' which opens the album with the dynamism of the great era. The well named 'Morning Star' with its shimmering guitar lines and 'Black Magic', which is sabred by a powerful instrumental part, also cultivate these rough aspects, as does 'Evening Star', which is bathed in wet keyboards against a background of pulsating rhythmics. Here again, the guitar of Ole Kristian Østby roars, swollen with a knotty and emotional sap. As for the slow register, it inspires the band to create the equally grandiose tracks 'Firegirl' and 'Through The Fire', which the organ of Vegar Larsen radiates with warmth, not forgetting 'The Offering' and its false 'Kashmir' tunes.

Aligning eight tracks in less than forty minutes, "Black Magic" does not know filling, frankly unstoppable opus coming from the best of the hard rock of the Seventies, confirming the real potential of its genitors.

A.O.R. - "Lion Heart" is a new demonstration of an obvious know-how that prevents Pride Of Lions from missing its mark but does not show any attempt to evolve.
THE FLOWER KINGS: Islands (2020)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With "Islands", The Flower Kings asserts itself, once again, as the most beautiful flagship of the progressive rock sphere.
