Sanctuary is a symphonic death/black band with progressive colors. Its first EP ("Beyond The Divine") oscillated between the black symphonism of Arcturus, The Covenant, Immortals and progressive death influences from Opeth or Children Of Bodom. Then "Le Choix du Mal" confirmed the good that one could think of the band. "Resilience", this new album produced by Frederic Gervais (Orakle) is carried by a concept around the acceptance and overcoming of psychological difficulties.

The melody and the ambiences are the base of the record. Thus 'Rise Of The Unpossessed Self' proposes a beautiful guitar, various ambiences, changes of rhythm and a crystalline piano and 'From The Depths' which dressed with its angelic piano, oscillates between serene climates and extreme tensions. The acoustic guitars, stripped of all artifice, are the basis of the sweet ambiances ('Ghosts' or 'Mental Battlefield') and bring a multitude of variations when associated with intense distortions, cold synthesizers or grandiloquent choruses embellished with sweeping ('Mental Battlefield').

The ambiences are dark and extend the black and death metal roots. This is the case of 'Mental Battlefield' which is based on intense riffs, 'Rise Of The Unpossessed Self' which is wrapped in dark harmonies and punctuated by a stifling blast, 'Ghosts' which opposes disturbing atmospheres and an evanescent piano evoking Chopin or 'Rise Of The Unpossessed Self' whose frightening passages are associated with a religious 'symphonism'. The album sometimes borders on progressive ('Where The Man Shines') when it builds a stressful atmosphere against a background of icy synthetic layers, then after a rise in power, imposes a melancholic piano.

"Resilience", in constant balance between violence and softness, technique and simplicity, dream and nightmare, is a record with multiple ambiences that flirts with the roots of progressive music. Dressed in a reinforced concrete production, Sanctuary demonstrates his desire to get off the beaten track. Between controlled fury, jazzy passages, crystalline piano and guitar at the limit of shred, the musicians concoct a very beautiful album, as endearing as it is trying.

ROCK - With "Stories of Strangers", Grumblewood appears as a New Zealand progressive folk rock band still too close to its references.
BONDED: Rest In Violence (2020)
THRASH - Conceived by two former members of Sodom, "Rest In Violence" is a perfect concentrate of Thrash whose result has everything to delight fans of the genre.
