The frenchies are back. After a "Ctrl + Alt + Fuck" that had put an end to nine years of silence, Psykup is back to a cruising rhythm to the delight of inventive and crazy metal lovers, but not only. For to consider Psykup only as a merry band of wacky metalheads would be very reductive, so much their work of deconstructing the genre's codes is of diabolical precision, as this fifth burn, "Hello Karma!", shows.
If there's one thing that makes Psykup special, besides its singularity on the metal scene, it's its identity. Its metalcore is recognizable among a thousand, and that's what we expect from a band. A few measures are enough to recognize the so particular style of Julien Cassarino and his band: an irresistible groove ('Get Laid'), murderous riffs ('Chaos Why Not') sometimes dissonant ('Nothing To Sell'), breaks coming out of nowhere ('Letter To Greta') and always that communicative energy that makes the listener want to turn the other cheek immediately after each song, like a boxer refusing to throw in the towel at any cost to wait for the end of a fight he knows he's lost in advance.
Indeed, it is impossible to resist the firepower of "Hello Karma! Especially since the album confirms the musical direction taken by the band with "Ctrl + Alt + Fuck". No more long songs and labyrinthine compositions, the 12 tracks of the album are short and efficient. Psykup does not fall for all that in the ease. It's quite the opposite and it's often great art, as shown by the Yiddish accordion bridge that links the two diabolical tracks 'Chaos Why Not' and 'Sun Is The Limit' or the amazing finale 'For The Ones' and its disturbing pop rock atmosphere.
At the top of its art, in full possession of its means and its striking power, Psykup offers us with "Hello Karma!" a remedy to the ambient depression. Enough to transform your living room into a pit and pogot until exhaustion while waiting for the end of the world. - Official website
