It's been a while since we last talked about Switzerland in terms of hard rock. And this is the first time we mention the Swiss band Black Diamonds in our pages. However, the band has already released three albums since its formation in 2004. Let's try to make up for it by examining this "No-Tell Hotel" with its cover evoking the Sunset Strip, this emblematic section of the Sunset Boulevard of Los Angeles, a festive and colorful place par excellence.
Black Diamonds is a quartet formed by its singer-guitarist Michael Kehl. Nostalgic for a decade when they were barely born, our Swiss friends have an obvious cult following for Mötley Crüe and Ratt, but also for Bon Jovi. Accompanied by a new guitarist, they propose with this fourth opus a production mixing these influences. It sails under the banner of a melodic hard rock between sleaze and glam on which the shadows of Crazy Lixx, Reckless Love and Crashdiet hover without shame. The look of the protagonists, the lyrics of their songs, their delirium on the videos which bloom on the Net show the color: to live happy let us live festive! Then, obviously, the work does not overflow of an abundant complexity. Indeed, "No-Tell Hotel" shines with a communicative energy, reinforced by the hymns to love, drink and fiesta. Artistically, no conceptual headaches here, the structures of the pieces are simple, short, but punchy.
To quote some tracks, let's evoke the eponymous title which starts with a wink to 'You Really Got Me' of the Kinks and makes explode at once the counters with its melodious flights not far from Def Leppard. Marked by the twin guitars demonstrations, the song immediately announces the color. 'Evil Twin' brings back to Hardcore Superstar and offers a chorus that could set fire to the pits and 'Lonesome Road', acoustic then electric, leans towards Cinderella, Tesla and Def Leppard. It is also allowed to put forward 'Forever Wild', with its dynamic drums and six-string, as well as the pretty ballad 'Anytime'. Finally, there is 'My Fate', which takes us back to the good old days of the 80's.
If you are feeling blue, don't hesitate, add to your playlists this record full of positivism. If you are, moreover, a fan of the genre and of the aforementioned bands, you will find there your opus of the first semester. Black Diamonds deserves, with this "No-Tell Hotel", the trophy of the most jovial band of the moment! - Official website
