"New tumult in the ranks of Burning Witches and new EP, dispensable this time: "The Circle Of Fire" suffers from acoustic rereadings that bring nothing and prove that the Swiss are more at ease when they get their claws out!"

Despite its youth, Burning Witches has already suffer several departures in its ranks. After the one of guitarist Alea Wyss (in 2018) and singer Seraina Telli the following year, it is the turn of Sonia Nusselder, who is also much appreciated by fans, to pack her bags! And as they had done with "Wings Of Steel", then in charge of submitting to the public the singer Laura Guldemond, the tigresses release today an EP in order to present their new finery. Let's hope that this umpteenth incarnation with Larissa Ernst on the second guitar is (finally) the right one.

A hybrid product, "The Circle Of Five" is unfortunately not very promising and lets us fear a recurring instability around the historical Romana Kalkuhl (guitars), Jeanine Grob (bass) and Lala Frischknecht (drums). The unpublished which gives its name to this meager opus is not in question, solid track enclosing a heavy metal à la Judas Priest who sees the beautiful ones coming out their heavy claws and Laura to shout in the manner of Rob Halford. But the next three songs, banal acoustic rereadings of "classics" from the Swiss repertoire, born during the period of confinement imposed by the health crisis almost everywhere, are much less appealing, especially 'We Eat Your Children' which borders on failure or lack of taste. While this rework is more successful in 'Dance With The Devil' and 'Black Magic', the sluggish result proves that Amazons are never as good as when they show their fangs. Thus, this purely mercantile object, delivered in a hurry, shows that the wireless register does not suit their heavy pearly melodies and juicy melodies.

Although offered in a naked form, these tracks are of course sufficiently robust to remain pleasant but do not make this "Circle Of Five" indispensable, finally rather disappointing. If we can't judge the future of a band on the basis of a simple mini album, let's hope that Burning Witches will nevertheless show more inspiration when it comes time to give birth to the successor of "Dance With The Devil"...
