"With "A Christmas Carol", Majestica gives us his musical vision of Scrooge's story. The result is perfect, at once fast, melodic with a strong Christmas spirit."

Second formation of Tommy Johansson, Sabaton's guitarist, Majestica had enchanted us in 2019 with its first album, "Above The Sky", a nugget of melodic speed metal that had brought a breath of fresh air to the genre. To find the formation so quickly with a second album was excellent news.

The new opus deals with a seasonal theme: Christmas. The Swedes look at a well-known story written by Charles Dickens, that of Ebenezer Scrooge in "A Christmas Caroll" which gives its name to the record. The theme is not wildly original, but the speed metal style could give a nice touch of freshness to this great classic. The record benefits from a splendid cover with warm colors and perfectly illustrating the theme.

The tone is set with 'A Christmas Carol', a perfect introduction tinged with the Christmas spirit that makes the listener enter the story. Then the magic happens with a nice trio of titles, 'A Christmas Story', 'Ghost Of Marley' and 'Ghost Of Christmas Past'. The speed melodic metal is very catchy with breathtaking riffs and solos. But what makes the strength of the whole is the vocals. Tommy is always accurate and is well accompanied by his teammates who all sing and create a dialogue where majestic choirs, spoken passages and well found choruses work miracles

Then everything calms down, the plot adapts to the evolution of the story. The ballad 'The Joy Of Christmas' is enchanting and allows our singers to shine. 'Ghost Of Christmas Present', 'Ghost Of Christmas To Come' and 'A Christmas To Come' have a more theatrical tone, not far from Therion or Ayreon. There are dialogues, songs that blend together perfectly and a touch of drama. And without you realizing it, the story already ends with 'A Majestic Christmas Theme'. The instrumental is in the spirit of the American Christmas songs with the melodic, majestic and flamboyant side.

Majestica did a nice job by capturing the spirit of the holidays without falling into the marshmallow with a very present speed metal character. "A Christmas Carol" is a  goldsmith work whether vocally or musically with fine arrangements and well restored atmospheres. A must-have in the genre...
