""Clint Slate proposes with "Dragons" a very rich rock album thanks to his taste for both sound and text experiences.""

Clint Slate is an artist who doesn't like to be restricted to doing the same thing over and over again from album to album. The previous one, "Woodn Bone" showed a taste for a certain risk for Clint by being recorded in a theater in one take while being broadcast live on the internet. For the new album, the composer is going to use the technique called "cut-up" for the texts consisting in cutting a text into several pieces and then reordering them to obtain a new one.
If at the level of the lyrics the experience, as long as one is interested in it, Clint Slate also proposes some track releases that will awaken the listener's attention. This way of approaching the music reminds us a bit of what U2 did in the 90's with the triptych "Achtung Baby", "Zooropa" and "Pop" that came out of the post punk rock of the Irish's previous albums. And as we know, Clint Slate is a great admirer of this band (he is also part of a Tribute Band).
"Dragons" constitutes a sinuous rock path with the integration of hip hop phrasing ('Sunset, Nova And Earth), funky bass lines ('The Sixth Trip Plan') or more tortuous electro ('Systems And Batteries'). Fans of experimentation will get their money's worth. Despite everything, the album keeps a certain more classical and common base allowing to offer doors into a universe more complex than it seems. The ballad 'Reconciliation TV', which has fake tunes of media eulogy with these layers of keyboards in the chorus where the singer uses intonations "a la Bono" bringing a little cynical charm to the album. This alternation demonstrates the artistic richness of Clint Slate while maintaining a constant interest throughout the album enhanced in particular by the addition of a hint of progressive ('Dark Is Wire').
"Dragons" establishes a certain balance between a few daring sound tests and pleasant accessibility thanks to a sense of melody refined through years of experience. The artists who dare are rare enough at the moment that you won't miss this very good album. - Official website

LAST INTERVIEW
CLINT SLATE (29 DECEMBER 2020)
|
Clint Slate is an artist who loves sound research but not only. For his new album, he uses the "cut-up" technique. On this occasion, Music Waves met again the reptilian artist.
