"Saris delivers with "Over The Rainbow" a melodic rock with hard tendency drowned under dated arrangements. Not very original and not very digestible."

No, Saris is not the acronym of a new avatar of a coronavirus, but the name of a very old German group since it was founded in 1981. The band has undergone many changes in its composition and the guitarist Derk Akkerman is now, with the release of "Beyond The Rainbow", the only original member. In its current form, Saris evolves with a trio bass/drums/guitar + keyboards, plus a duo of singers "with a powerful and versatile male voice and a singer full of soul. This, combined with a symphonic choir, harmonizes and personalizes these songs" (according to the label).
Side musical style, Saris is at the crossroads of several genres: the beginning of the opener 'Avalon' leans towards melodic hard rock but is also tinged with symphonism with copious choirs refrains and neo keyboards with strong 80's scents. If the band claims a progressive label, it only appears timidly in a few musical bridges.
In reality, Saris shows hardly originality: except the opening of 'New World', the female voice is relegated to the choirs which invade systematically the refrains. The lyrics are not of a depth inciting to reflection ('Away From You') and subtlety is not in the vocabulary of the arrangements: guitar soli all of the same very standard invoice, heavy drums, monotonous bass and keyboards in layers constantly sticking the sound space, with as a climax the title track which would like to be epic but which is only clumsy.
The sound universe is thus always summed up in the same style, which becomes boring over the duration of the album. In the end, finishing "Beyond The Rainbow" is like coming out of a too rich meal: if the ingredients are correct (who would refuse a priori a glassful of melodic hard rock?), the cooking is too heavy and the digestion proves to be delicate. At the end of the tasting, the consumer hesitates to refill his drink... - Official website
