Project of a woman hidden behind a simple initial (T.) taking care of all the instruments, Nordgeist plunges us into a universe of snow and ice, desolate landscapes where the silhouettes are swallowed by a mist at the same time bitter and spectral.
The band proposes a black metal Lo-fi with immersive atmospheres close to the ambient through four compositions filling a menu of more than fifty minutes. Nordgeist thus takes its time to spread atmospheres of nocturnal snowdrifts. Inaudible and flayed, the vocals are so far away that they seem to have been captured in the depths of a cave buried under the permafrost, the keyboards have a misty tessitura and the guitars, mixed very forward, drown the whole under a voluntarily opaque layer which gives the impression to see rising a single lament of almost one hour.
Moments of pure happiness nevertheless spring from this block erected in an eternal winter night, in the first rank of which imposes itself the immense 'Revenge', hypnotic fortress of a beauty as desperate as underground. 'Winter' is an track of great emotional strength, perfectly translating the alloy in which this black metal is sculpted, both polar and dreamy, while 'Sorrow' confirms that despite its title evoking an inexorable sadness, Nordgeist never drapes itself in a funereal darkness.
Some will probably judge "Frostwinter" too repetitive, stretching to the extreme compositions that all sound alike. But from this compact mass rumbles a shattering and evocative power of these territories numbed by a sinister coldness.
