"In spite of a very unfavorable context, Fear Factory offers an "Aggression Continuum" of very honorable quality with some very good moments of industrial thrash."

With "Genexus", Fear Factory was back in the spotlight and gave hope that they would once again move forward. But the burst was ephemeral, the group exploded at the end of 2016. There is little point in revisiting these court cases. It's just worth noting that only Dino Cazares and Mike Heller remain since the departure of Burton C. Bell in 2020. The album was ready but stalled since 2017 by legal issues. "Aggression Continuum" is finally here with a new mix and Bell's vocals recorded in 2017.
Composed of ten tracks, the album follows the guideline of the Fear Factory sound well established since the return of Cazares with "Mechanize". We find the industrial thrash sound that made his glory with the alternation between Bell's screamed and clear vocals. And the result is surprisingly correct, Fear Factory hits the nail on the head on several occasions. 'Recode', 'Aggression Continuum', 'Fuel Injected Suicide Machine' and 'End Of Line' stand out. The futuristic and cinematographic side comes out thanks to the keyboards. At the same time, the brute force is appreciable, the rhythm is very intense and the furious singing of Bell makes its effect with a raging side that sticks to the seat. The latter, well helped by the magic of the studio, also offers beautiful parts of clear vocals with the pure and air side which makes its force.
Beside, the album is more routine. 'Disruptor', 'Manufactured Hope' and 'Monolith' don't bring much to the industrial thrash machine. They are easy to listen to but don't make much of an impression once they are finished. On 'Purity', the clearer vocals allow the track to come out better with a nice finesse. 'Collapse' is also more interesting, Fear Factory adds a good dose of agressiveness to its formula, reminding us of its formidable first album.
In spite of these small drawbacks, the balance remains positive. Dino Cazares is a smart man, he masters the Fear Factory art on the fingertips and is still capable of flashes of brilliance that allow the album to arouse interest. Now he has to find a replacement for Burton C. Bell, and the challenge will not be easy. - Official website
