BRAINSTORM: Wall Of Skulls (HEAVY METAL): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

With "Midnight Ghost", Brainstorm had signed a good vintage of melodic heavy metal. The band has certainly not reversed the trend, it remains drown in the mass but keeps an intact freshness and a communicative sympathy. It is thus pleasant to find them with a thirteenth opus, "Wall Of Skulls", which offers a good dose of direct and unpretentious music.

Obviously, we shouldn't expect a musical revolution but just to enjoy the work of a craftsman in love with the genre and not ready to give up with a dynamic record that doesn't suffer any dead time. When he presses on the gas pedal, Brainstorm throws hits that go straight to the point. Thus tracks like 'Where Ravens Fly', 'Escape The Silence', 'Turn Off The Light' or 'My Dystopia' plunge us into pure Germanic speed metal. The rhythm is intense with fast riffs, drums in front and soli in the tradition of the genre with a beautiful speed of execution. Andy B. Franck shines with a powerful and high tone and a nice melodic ability. At his side on 'Escape The Silence', Peavy of Rage intervenes with the force that we know him. While on 'Turn Off The Light', Seeb from Orden Ogan brings a nice melodic touch.

But the album is not only speed and shows a melodic side. This gives a seductive quartet composed of 'Solitude', 'Glory Disappears', 'End Of My Innocence' and 'Holding On'. Andy is a storyteller, in the manner of Blaze Bayley, with a veiled voice full of charm. The choruses are catchy and the riffs and soli full of feeling in an epic heavy melodic style. With these titles, the album is airy and gains in depth.

Brainstorm will probably never become the new trendy metal sensation, but that's not the point. With "Wall Of Skulls", he throws a heavy melodic bomb that will delight the fans and that is the most important thing; let's hope it lasts for a long time. - Official website
