After the departure of Fabio Lione, Alex Staropoli became the only former member still present in Rhapsody of Fire for the release of "The EightMountain". Carried by the warm and powerful voice of Giacomo Voli, the record showed a band at ease in a fresh and dynamic power symphonic metal. As a prelude to the future album "Glory For Salvation", "I'll Be Your Hero" is an EP made of a new song and several nice bonuses.
The main interest comes obviously from the new track, 'I'll Be Your Hero'. Direct and catchy, it has all the qualities of a hit, with a catchy chorus. It confirms that Giacomo is an excellent choice, very comfortable in his vocals and mastering the high notes. We appreciate a keyboard tinted FM and a heavy instrumental part of high flight. The band then revisits 'Where Dragon Fly', B-side of the single 'Emerald Sword' released in 1998, which allows us to rediscover a beautiful cover of a folk and medieval song even if the charm and the naivety of the original are missing a little.
On the two live tracks ('Rain Of Fury' and 'The Courage To Forgive'), Rhapsody Of Fire shows itself at ease with a beautiful cohesion, the speed and heavy side is particularly pleasing. Giacomo shines in this live context and his charisma leads the band. Finally the ballad 'The Wind, The Rain And The Moon' from the last album is present, declined in addition to English in three versions, Spanish, Italian and French. It remains a moment full of feeling, all in nuances and allows Giacomo to shine once again.
Of course, listening to the same song four times in a row is a bit redundant but that said, the EP is still a nice gift from a Rhapsody Of Fire that spoils its fans. Moreover, the quality of the new track bodes well for a new album that will be highly anticipated. - Official website
