NOBODY'S STRAIGHT: Transition (HARDCORE): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

We had to be patient to find the French band Nobody's Straight. Almost seven years have passed since the release of "Utopique". Since then, the band has experienced a lot of turbulence in its line-up, Thomas remaining the only survivor of that time. Times have also changed, The Arrs and l'Esprit du Clan are dormant and the band has the heavy task of brandishing the banner of a French hardcore. For that, they offer a third opus, "Transition", which we hope will be as good as its predecessors.

In just over half an hour and nine tracks, Nobody's Straight signs several hardcore slaps worthy of the best bands, at the crossroad of Sick Of It All and Madball. The rhythm is intense, the riffs fast and immediate with a huge intensity giving the desire to break everything ('A Définir', 'Tu Succomberas'). The whole is carried by the raging vocals of an impressive Thomas who lives his texts with conviction.

But the album is not only rage, avoiding the monolithic side by varying the tone, which allows to fully enjoy the texts where comes out a strong anger as in the titles 'Le Choix' and 'Jamais'. Thomas' vocals is clear, he calls for a spirit of revolt but also encourages to fight and move forward. The spirit of Lofofora is present but with a stronger hargne. With 'Conviction' the tone becomes more groovy and nervous, almost sludge with another very strong text.

Despite the line-up evolutions, Nobody's Straight hasn't changed and keeps its course. "Transition" is a strong incisive hardcore album, carrying strong ideas in engaged texts. We must now hope that the band will stabilize and not waste any more time. - Official website
