"Spirit Adrift proposes a very short EP with "Forge Your Future" but the formidable riffs and the melodic efficiency carry away everything on their way."

It's hard to find a more productive band than Spirit Adrift. Indeed, after 4 albums in just 5 years, the quartet from Phoenix, Arizona releases this summer their third EP. Is it the sudden sobriety of its leader-singer-multi-instrumentalist-songwriter Nate Garrett in 2015 that triggered this creative frenzy? Probably, and so much the better for fans of 70's/80's style hard/heavy music.

Entitled "Forge Your Future", this new EP features a line-up change with the combined departures of Eric Wagner on guitar and Chase Mason on bass, respectively replaced by Preston Bryant (Marcus' brother, the drummer) and Sonny DeCarlo. Another notable feature is that the EP contains only 3 tracks, admittedly of decent length, but 20 minutes of music is still a bit short, especially for those who will like the object.

And there are many reasons to appreciate this "Forge Your Future", starting with the fat riffs that punctuate the three proposed tracks. The influences come clearly from Black Sabbath, for the very heavy riff of 'Forge Your Future' for example, but also from Ozzy Osbourne for the fast riff of 'Invisible Enemy' which is not without reminding what Randy Rhoads did on 'Mr Crowley' in particular. Some passages will also recall the recent productions of The Night Flight Orchestra (itself an entire ode dedicated to the golden age of hard'n'heavy), just like the vocals quite close to that of Bjorn Strid.

Add to that a huge production that highlights the heavy style and the two guitars, and you get a (mini) heavy metal album that will revive the appetite of the nostalgic of the great hours of the Sab'. But this is not the only reason to be happy because Garrett is an excellent composer and his songs are very catchy, both rhythmically and melodically, and the effectiveness is immediate. The duration, which seemed to be a handicap, turns into an asset since there is no time to get bored. Let's bet that with the frenzy that animates its leader, Spirit Adrift will be able to maintain the flame in the months to come. Until then, how not to enjoy this excellent appetizer as powerful as bouncy.
