By releasing his "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" in August 2020, Seether did not put all the chances on his side to defend his eighth album. The sales figures were not up to the level of some past releases, but blaming these results only on the health crisis would be too easy because they remain comparable to the sales of the previous album "Poison The Parish". In search of its glorious past, Seether comes back timidly with a new EP entitled "Wasteland - The Purgatory" made of tracks that were not selected in previous albums.

If the South-Africans wanted to see more comments that point out their slump, they wouldn't proceed in another way than the one used in "Wasteland - The Purgatory". First mistake, the EP starts with 'Wasteland', the third track of the album released a year ago in a strictly identical version. Second mistake, this same 'Wasteland' is covered in an "alternative" version at the end of the record which is only an acoustic rereading without much interest of the original version, itself far from being outstanding. Perhaps even more with an EP than with an LP, the beginning and the conclusion are key moments to be particularly taken care of. Quite the opposite of this "Wasteland - The Purgatory".

Moreover, the three other tracks of the EP do not shine by their writing quality... They are just average tracks that culminate with 'Will It Ever End?' classic in its approach but not lacking in tone in the melodies; in addition, there are two medium tracks, 'What Would You Do?' predictable in its power-ballad construction and bland in its chorus, and 'Feast or Famine' that wants to reminds Tool but doesn't reach its goal.

The level of the tracks of this EP is in coherence with the nature of the project which is to propose B sides of average invoice. "Wasteland - The Purgatory" leaves doubtful about Seether's commitment to offer a minimum of neat and respectful content to the fans. May it at least have the virtue of electroshock so that Seether finds some lucidity on its own artistic approach ...

PROGRESSIVE METAL - With "Sonic Birth", The Progressive Souls Collective tries to reconcile classic progressive metal and hazardous experimentations without really convincing.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - As for his previous albums, Eyesberg let himself be tied up by his own inspirations, without being able to propose an approach of progressive rock worthy of the name.
