The Americans of Carnifex build a harsh and uncompromising music, always straight in their style. Their previous record, "World War X", was powerful and violent (sometimes in a muted way). Carnifex released "Graveside Confessions", a harder and ultimate work than the previous one.

The Americans are masters in the art of building a crushing music, spiced with suffocating blasts and rhythmic variations, where the voice growls and the drums beat up ('Graveside Confessions', 'Talk To The Dead', 'Pray For Peace'). Some melodic touches are scattered on 'Seven Souls' while a very nice guitar dresses 'Cursed'. Softness also rises from 'January Nights', a haunting track that offers a rest for bruised ears. All in all, the record is of good quality with its percussive and groovy tracks, its passages with scary atmospheres... but it lacks both a touch of madness. Even very well executed, the furnace becomes at times difficult to bear as the moments of respite are rare.

"Graveside Confessions" sins by its perfectionism: the record is perfect in its setting and in its calculated aggressiveness, but it would have deserved some variety. With so much rage and harshness and so few breaks, it lacks moments to air it out. It is this lack of variation in intensity that penalizes it and, by a strange sleight of hand, makes its violence disappear under a heap of ultra-violent riffs.
