"If "Halo" is not as exciting as with "Queen Of Time", Amorphis going back to a more classic sound, the charm still works perfectly."

With "Queen Of Time" the Finns of Amorphis had proposed an esoteric album very rich. As it is not possible to live on its assets forever. Amorphis has the heavy task of proposing a successor to its masterpiece and the history of music has shown that it is not easy. The last part of a trilogy started with "Under The Red Cloud" in 2015 is called "Halo".

Amorphis had gone far in the experimentations on "Queen Of Time". For "Halo" he returns to a more classic sound, in the spirit of his previous albums. In its first part, the record deploys a well known pattern. Archi-classical but efficient, the first five tracks sail between death, progressive and folk with this ease to associate power and melody. The riffs are immediately recognizable, the choruses interesting and the alternation between growl and clear vocals carried by Joutsen, always so remarkable, makes its effect.

To avoid a feeling of repetitiveness, Amorphis leaves the automatic pilot mode in its second part. 'When The Gods Came' and 'Seven Road Come Together' raise the level. On the first one, the keyboards impose themselves and the chorus carried by the clear vocals gives the shiver. The second one gives off an airy side full of finesse with a beautiful epic force and a powerful emotional charge in the chorus. 'War' and 'Halo' seem to answer each other. 'War' brings Amorphis' dark death side to the forefront with the growl and just a pinch of clean vocals to tone it down. 'Halo' is its opposite, it is bright and exciting with a superb symphonic break and a soft female vocal, the growl just bringing an extra power.

Amorphis is not as exciting as with "Queen Of Time", going back to a more classic sound and letting themselves go to some writing facilities. However, the charm still works perfectly. A transitional record, "Halo" has a lot of qualities to delight a large audience.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With "The Burden of Paradise", Different Light takes the listener into a totally addictive symphony for over an hour.
KRAEMER: All The Way (2022)
MELODIC HARD ROCK - Prisoner of a too strong trademark, "All The Way" doesn't offer to Kraemer the frame that would have deserved a talent above the average from which he struggles to extract himself.
