Quite unknown in our country, Ravenous is one of the spearheads of the Canadian heavy metal scene. With "Eat The Fallen" released in 2019, he scoured the stages of his country either as a headliner or with Alestorm, Hammerfall and Delain. For "Hubris" his second opus, he launches himself internationally with the firm intention of making himself known. With Ravenous, the listener is immersed in an epic and theatrical power metal influenced by Powerwolf, Orden Ogan as well as by old hands like Blind Guardian or Iron Savior.
Ravenous likes to make the powder speak with titles cut in a blistering melodic speed. With 'Carnage In Carthage', 'Astral Elixir', 'Die 1,000 Deaths' and '...Of Beasts and Faust', he signs an irresistible quartet, finding the essence of the genre with effective refrains, the powerful and low vocals of R.A. Voltaire which makes its effect and fast and melodic riffs and soli. The best of Ravenous comes with '...Of Beasts and Faust' and its ten minutes in the form of an epic tale which multiplies the strong moments with a striking final and a dose of growl well brought.
With 'Son Of Storms' and 'Claw Is The Law' he gets closer to the spirit of Blind Guardian. The tone is less speed, more catchy and tinged with a folk spirit, with the mandolin and the accordion on 'Claw Is The Law'. The song becomes a storyteller with choirs accentuating the theatrical idea. 'Bridgerunner' is also catchy. Cinematographic and adventurous, it is a nugget worthy of the beautiful hours of Rhapsody. With 'Onwards & Upwards' the band signs a beautiful ballad. The duet formed by Voltaire and Mathias Blad of Falconer works well with a nice emotional side. Finally the ultra speed 'The Alder Queen' in duet with Nina Osegueda is a killing and allows to appreciate the high vocals of a Nina worthy heiress of Doro.
"Hubris" is a nice little surprise from Canada. Ravenous enters the heavy speed fray with talent and freshness. With such a beautiful album under his arm, he has the means to quickly make a name for himself. - Official website
