To change voice without changing path is a challenge and the American band Firewölfe is no exception: after two albums and a drastic change of line-up, is the wolf still hungry? The answer lies in ten tracks executed with a new blood and ready to fight. Around the founding members Nick Layton (guitar) and Bobby Ferkovich (bass) now gravitate the shredder of TKO Michael David, the drummer escaped from A Dying Planet Marco Bicca and especially the sharp vocals of Freddy Krumins.
From the first notes of 'Vicious As The Viper', the stage is set, like the fangs of the beast in the heart of the listener. The double pedal roars, the strings vibrate and harmonize, running down the steppes like raging packs, the notes breaking at full speed between the vicious barks of a frontman full of testosterone and bite.
The references are numerous and we can hear Van Halen ('Wages Of Sin' and its old school sound aggression), Iron Maiden ('Method To Madness'), Black Sabbath ('Keep The Hounds At Bay') and even Whitesnake with THE ballad of the album, 'Candle In The Dark'.
But what remains above all, it is a listening pleasure linked to a polished production and artistic choices totally assumed. It took Firewölfe seven years, a pandemic and a staff reshuffle to give birth to this third album and the least we can say is that the game was worth it.
