Hailing from Calgary, Canada, Hyperia is a young band founded in 2018, with several singles and an album released in 2020 to their credit, and they are back with "Silhouettes Of Terror". As its logo and the opus cover suggest, Hyperia evolves in thrash with 80s influences but also offers death aspects in the spirit of Brazilian Nervosa.
The key element for the band comes from its singer, Marlee, who evolves with ease in all styles. The titles mix influences: on many songs ('Hypnagogia', 'Intoxication', ...), Hyperia deploys an arsenal in the form of an explosive cocktail full of furious solos and riffs by associating the velocity of thrash with the aggressiveness of death. Marlee's vocals impress with her screams and ferocious growl.
Other tracks ('Experiment 77', 'Whitecoat') have speed metal aspects close to Slayer or Metal Church. The intensity of the songs is overwhelming but the melody is not neglected, and Marlee is still very powerful with a vocal worthy of the best screamers. As a bonus, the band has fun with Abba's 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme' by giving it a thrash color that suits it perfectly without losing its melodic aspect.
At the crossroads of thrash and death, Hyperia offers a solid album with "Silhouettes Of Terror". The band shows great qualities and has the weapons to break through in the middle of the pack of young wolves who are candidates to take over from the old ones. - Official website
