Myosis: physiological or pathological narrowing of the pupil. This scientific term was adopted as a patronymic by a young artist from France. It's with none other than Denis Barthe, ex-drummer of the band led by Bertrand Cantat, that Myosis recorded its first EP with a title as cynical as disenchanted: "Pretty Girls Are Never Sad".
From the start, Myosis generously reveals its inspirations in a cold and haunting rock climate with 'Slow Days', which reveals the main influence of the artist, Radiohead. However, the voice is not as plaintive as Thom Yorke's - there is a cold anger, a barely digested rage.
Avoiding the traps of the too strong homage, Myosis reveals a more personal and interesting dimension when it knows how to detach itself from its influences. The use of a Rhodes keyboard stamped 70's enriches the sound palette on 'Need You', finding more aerial sonorities. And it is finally on 'Rosie Green' that Myosis reveals its true face: sticky blues influences which evoke Rodolphe Burger's Kat Onoma and a more assertive voice playing on the sides intimacy / cold distance.
Myosis asserts beautiful promises from his first EP; if the references have not been completely digested yet, we can only encourage the approach of an artist who does not lock himself in a single genre. A story to be followed with a lot of attention. - Official website
