With "Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism", Napalm Death had proposed an opus of great quality which saw them exploring all the facets of extreme art. The English band showed a face as committed and combative as ever in a world going totally to pieces. Barely a year and a half later, they are already back with an EP, "Resentment Is Always Seismic - A Final Throw Of Throes", presented as an extension of the previous album and consisting of tracks from the album sessions and two covers.
We find a furious Napalm Death who doesn't seem decided to calm down. From the beginning, he throws an unstoppable uppercut with 'Narcisus'. Carried by a Barney bellowing like a damned, the title is an effective mixture between hardcore, death metal, punk and grind. Napalm throws a war cry with an intensity that sticks to the seat. In the same spirit, 'By Proxy', 'Man Bites Dogged' and 'Slaver Thought A Repeat Performance' show a band in top shape, sure of its power and showing an incredible strength.
With 'People Pie', Napalm Death takes over Sab! the indus rock legend. The result is convincing, the robotic tone of Barney sticks the shiver as well as a hypnotic music, between indus and noise. With 'Dont' Need It', Bad Brains is in the spotlight. In just over a minute Napalm Death finds the hardcore punk spirit of the band for a furious and enjoyable result. 'Resentment Always Simmers' is more nuanced, certainly violent but with clear vocals and dark and oppressive passages. Its remix, 'Resentment is Always Seismic (Dark Sky Burial Dirge)' signed by Barney is even stronger. Cosmic, hypnotic and carried by a vocal from elsewhere, the track is captivating and presents a chilling industrial facet.
The choice of a separate EP is to be commended, whereas many bands are content to release their album in a deluxe version. Napalm Death confirms its independent, rebellious and enraged side with an impressive strength and still continue to defy time. - Official website
