IGNITE: Ignite (HARDCORE): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

For thirty years, the Americans of Ignite have been shaking things up with their melodic hardcore punk that has allowed them to become the spearhead of the genre. They are also known for their ecological and social commitment with a strong support to many associations. The life of the band has been shaken up with the departure of its singer, Zoli Teglas, who retired to defend the causes to which he is attached. Eli Santana was recruited, an EP was released at the end of 2021 and now it is a seventh album that signs the return to business.

Carrying the band's name, the record features eleven tracks and is just over half an hour long. What is striking is the energy deployed as illustrated by the cover. The disc contains several hardcore punk missiles like 'Anti-Complicity Anthem', 'This Day', 'On The Ropes' or 'Call Of The Dogs' and 'After The Flood'. Simple, direct and carried by devastating melodies they are formidable of effectiveness with a very fast side. Eli is perfect in his role, powerful in a pure hardcore spirit with a remarkable melodic sense and sings intense choruses with conviction.

Ignite also signs longer titles which put forward his melodic side ('The River', 'The House Is Burning', 'Enemy'). The pop punk spirit of the song makes its effect, the choruses are catchy and the melodies are well done. All this mixes well with a hardcore aspect bringing an appreciable touch of power. Finally 'Let The Beggars Beg' is calmer, darker and tinged with melancholy in the spirit of Green Day and confirms Eli's talent for melodic punk.

If Ignite's mission was to prove that a future exists without Zoli Teglas, it is successful. Between punk, pop and hardcore, the band signs a stunning, fresh and dynamic record. - Official website
