"Taken independently, each song is of quality, but even if it is well played, "Doomsday" lacks rage and sharp."

The germans of Deserted Fear shake up the death metal scene with their powerful music. Three years after "Drowned by Humanity" which allowed them to be signed by Century Media because of their growing notoriety, they release "Doomsday", a cocktail of energetic death metal and melodies.

"Doomsday" is full of energy and power. The Omnium Gatherum-like 'Follow The Light That Blinds' is as sharp as it is sweet: smooth guitars dress it up with a refined elegance. 'Fall From Grace' has two facets: first it offers unstructured harmonies and then, as a way to relax the atmosphere, an almost airy ambiance. As for 'Part Of The End', it proves that even if the music of the band is classical, it is executed with a great know-how. Melody is the mainstay of the record, from the thunderous bells and sparse piano of its opening to 'Call Of Emptiness' and its majestic guitar or 'Voices Of Fire' which juxtaposes melody, fast rhythm and nervous riffs.

Taken independently, each song is of quality, but the whole remains too linear. Even if the melodies are catchy ('Doomsday'), the record lacks an ounce of risk-taking. Everything is so clean that the album seems to suffer from this neatness. "Doomsday" leaves the listener wanting more by forgetting the bite of the style. This is finally demonstrated by 'At It Ends', a beautiful interlude full of promises and mysteries, like the announcement of a sensory upheaval... which unfortunately remains absent.
