A guitar full of "reverb'" with chords coming from "Echoes", on a background of gliding synths, the whole supported by a drum kit as precise as possible: Pink Floyd re-formed in 2007? Alas no. Nevertheless, "Aeropause" welcomes you in the galaxy of "Pure Reason Revolution", a progressive band if there is one who had the honours to start his career with a major label (Sony).
After such an appetizer, there's no doubt that the already charmed listener is not yet at the end of his surprises, to say the least. From the next track, Pure Reason Revolution offers us an alternation of semi-acoustic passages, with the smooth voice of Chloe Alper supported by Jon Courtney, and grunge borderline parts, powerful vocal choruses and very electric guitar riffs as a bonus. Classical stringed instruments (violins) are also part of the show to bring even more variety to the style.
The rest of the album will evolve all along around this constant opposition between soft passages and muscular choruses with sumptuous harmonies. It is of course in the longest tracks that the style takes its full extent. Thus, "The Bright Ambassadors of Morning" is a marvel of baroque rock (some will say post-rock), with a progressive rise in power all along its 12 minutes, the melodic theme coming back regularly in various forms as the subject gets stronger... bluffing !
Not to mention a masterpiece - some tracks like "The Exact Colour" or "He Tried to Show Them Magic" appearing one tone below the rest - Pure Reason Revolution succeeds in synthesizing different eras of progressive and rock music in general, while keeping a very modern aspect. Turn up the sound and let the power of this band take hold of you, you won't be disappointed. - Official website
