SKILLS: Different Worlds (ROCK): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

Skills is a newcomer resulting from the association of Brad Gillis (Night Ranger), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big) and David Huff (Giant). If the know-how of the musicians is obvious, will the osmosis between them be there on "Different Worlds"?

From the first listen, the listener can see that the association of talents works. However, the musicians certainly did not approach the limits of their capacities, the conception of the eleven tracks of this opus did not require a particular technical level. This does not prevent these melodic hard rock compositions from easily insinuating themselves into the mind of the genre's fan.

To play simple while remaining effective requires nevertheless competences, and the man with the microphone is not innocent in the interest which arouses this opus. A Brazilian with a somewhat offbeat look, Renan Zonta (ex-candidate of "The Voice" in Brazil) has a vocal range in the line of Ronnie Romero's and perfects the work of his companions by delivering his lyrics with conviction and talent.

Beyond the two singles chosen by the group, some compositions deserve to be highlighted: 'Losing The Track', power ballad of first order or 'Writings On The Wall' on which a lot of melodic fulgurances follow one another. Let us note to finish that Skills reminds neither the works of Mr Big, nor those of Night Ranger, just could sometimes cross those of Giant.

The success of this first try, the pedigree and the talent of its musicians will necessarily attract the attention of Frontiers' followers. But managing to break into a musical circle witnessing an overabundance of new formations will not be easy for Skills. - Official website
