"Relying on an strong mastery of their art, the Germans of Long Distance Calling anchor themselves a little more as a sure value of modern post-rock. "Eraser" is once again a nugget not to be missed."

For fifteen years, Long Distance Calling has been a leader of the heavy instrumental post-rock movement, refining its alternative metal with a strong and immediately identifiable personality. Their new 2022 release, "Eraser", is no exception to the rule of instrumental variety, intelligently mixing metal phases with more atmospheric, jazzy or ethereal ambiances.

Long Distance Calling has no equal when it comes to telling stories without words but with very strong messages through an always very expressive music. It's the disappearance of species that is the subject of "Eraser", which is as fatalistic as it is cold and luminous, as their music knows how to be. The numerous melodic and rhythmic developments that punctuate the tracks always serve the story and the band is fond of progressive variations that are still very present here. This is particularly the case on the melancholic 'Sloth' where the languid saxophone precedes the airy solo of the finale, or during the numerous developments of a breathless and exciting 'Blood Honey', carried by a rhythm section among the most enviable of the atmospheric metal scene. The single chosen by the band is 'Kamilah', a bewitching track full of the band's typical post-rock ambiences, which can be enjoyed on headphones with its disquieting sound effects, its very organic acoustic atmosphere and its melodic developments that whet the curiosity.

On the production side, the Germans return to something simpler and organic, rid for the occasion of the electro artefacts that animated their previous productions. The result is a beautifully mineral sounding mix illustrated by an authentic drum sound sometimes close to the math rock of Japan's Toe.

"Eraser" is one more stone in the immense edifice that is Long Distance Calling. It has seen the birth of magnificent albums that count in the history of progressive post rock. This last effort has everything to delight the band's fans, to reconcile the usual refractory to instrumental albums and to please prog fans of all kinds, as the variety of its music confers to its albums in general, and to "Eraser" in particular, this extra soul that makes us listen to them over and over again with as much delight.

HAKEN: Fauna (2023)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - With "Fauna", Haken offers us a new epic ride, metaphorically vitriolizing the human world through animals.
THISQUIETARMY X AWAY: Machine Consciousness, Phase Iii (2022)
OTHERS EXTREME - The result of the collaboration between Thisquietarmy and Voivod's drummer, "Machine Consciousness, Phase III" offers a strange music with a hypnotic coldness on the borders of drone and jazz.
