"Animalistic" is the third testimony of the association between Ronnie Atkins, the singer of Pretty Maids, and Erik Martensson, Eclipse's (almost) handyman. Nordic Union hadn't visited us since the release of "Second Coming", which was acclaimed by the fans four years ago.
Atkins holds here his second opus of the year with "Make It Count", his remarkable solo try. Favoring his side-projects less exhausting than the promotional tours with his original band, the Dane is everywhere lately. Even if his voice has lost some of its former power - but how could it be otherwise considering the serious illness he is courageously fighting - this new Nordic Union effort owes a lot to his passionate interpretation.
We are here in the same register that made the success of the combo. The combination of Eclipse's melodic talents and Pretty Maids' strenght creates a heavy metal that is certainly classic, but accessible and effective. Martensson has no equal when it comes to composing easy listening tracks where he can link punchy riffs, more peaceful verses and powerfull choruses. Nordic Union is a hybrid that perfectly combines the characteristics of both gangs, but also lets their own identity express itself. Thus, one part of this opus proposes a trip to the side of Pretty Maids with the very muscular 'On This Day I Fight' and the ballad 'Riot', the other one honoring Eclipse with the galvanizing 'Scream' and 'Shot In The Dark' which would be a hit on the airwaves in a parallel universe.
"If this is the end, then I think it's time to start", are the first words of 'On This Day I Fight', the title that starts this "Animalistic". Let's hope that this catchphrase won't be a bad omen and that this deadline will be as late as possible. That would allow us to follow again Ronnie Atkins in new adventures. - Official website
