ANAPHORA: Exode (PROGRESSIVE ROCK): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

French band founded in 2005 and author of two first albums in this first decade of the XXIst century, Anaphora comes back on stage after a 12 years discographic break by proposing us with "Exodes" a new concept relating the abandonment of the Earth by the Men who, after having ransacked the blue planet, leave to the search of a new fall point.

To tell us this story, Anaphora relies on a typically neo-progressive rock music, carried by keyboards with sounds inherited from the 90's, sublimated by voices or aggressive guitars. The tone is given from the start by 'Exodus - Prologue' which, in one big minute, distils the different ingredients of the beautiful mixture that awaits the listener during a short hour: a farandole of cosmic keyboards, a sharp guitar that pushes a first melodic theme and drums that supports the whole thing with a lot of beats. 'L'Ennemi du Bien' allows us to enjoy Cathy Soler's androgynous voice: one thinks very quickly of Daniel Balavoine or Lou Van Der Cruyssen, the original singer of Saqqarah on the album "Genèse".

And just like Saqqarah, Anaphora delivers tracks with catchy melodies and careful orchestrations, linking different themes and variations within each track. The listener follows the story with interest and, when the story stops, it's to give way to superb instrumental passages, illuminated of course by guitar soli ('Partir Loin d'ici', 'Changer d'Univers'), but also leaving room for keyboards or bass. As such, it is advisable to underline the very interesting game between these last ones throughout 'Faire le Chemin à l'Envers'. And to give a little more consistency to the whole, a small detour by the metal and some passages well dynamic allows Anaphora to dynamite the whole, while keeping its melodic aspects ('Changer d'Univers'), bringing these parts closer to Nemo.

To the readers who are put off by the word neo-prog in the first lines of a review, we must advise, as to all the others, to urgently look at "Exodes", as Anaphora proves to be bluffing of creativity and technicality, deserving a huge spotlight on a record which should delight more than one. - Official website
