""Second Skin" by Iconic is a beautiful album of classic hard rock paying tribute to 80's Whitesnake."

Fans of Inglorious, an English classic rock band with four albums to their credit know the vocal talents of Nathan James. Worthy heir of David Coverdale and Hughes, he was of course spotted by Frontiers who decided to surround him with choice partners and thus give birth to this new all-star band : Iconic. The first production of this new team is called "Second Skin" and is available since the arrival of summer.
About the artists chosen by the Italian label to lend a hand to the frontman, we can say that they do not play in the lower divisions. The guitarists of Stryper and Whitesnake (Sweet and Hoekstra), the ex-bassist of Black Star Riders (Mendoza) and the drummer of the Whitesnake (Aldridge) have joined the adventure. The iconic castings not being systematically a guarantee of success, the informed listener will be right to wonder about the quality of the compositions of this "Second Skin", since as far as technique is concerned, he can only be reassured.
Let him be relieved, the eleven tracks of the opus hold perfectly the road. Particularly influenced by Whitesnake - what Frontiers had wished for - the compositions of the two guitarists offer Homeric rhythms, strong riffs and amazing soli. The melodies played throughout the work are highly polished. If they do not immediately impact the listener each time, they inevitably take possession of him in the long run, which is a guarantee of longevity of the interest of the album.
It is thus necessary to take time to discover all that the musicians propose on this "Second Skin". And although Sweet said that this musical return to the past reminded him how much he loved the sounds of the 80's, the work does not smell like mothballs. Unsurprisingly, there are occasional vintage sounds like on 'Ready For Your Love', a classy boogie rock with an old-timey organ solo, or on 'This Way' which flirts with Boston and 'Here I Go Again' by Whitesnake. But the arrangements are so effective and elaborate that one can only be seduced. And when it's time to enjoy the direct 'Run (As Fast As You Can)' where Sweet fights on the mic with James and the twin guitars of the hard bluesy 'Enough Of Your Love', we say to ourselves that the casting invited here has definitely respected its rank.
Iconic has succeeded in its bet, this association of old veterans has made a hell of an entry with this first opus. Offering a rhythmic section that sends an organic and calibrated groove, and a high level vocal performance, "Second Skin" has everything to bring back the nostalgic troops of "1987". We may have found here the worthy successor of Whitesnake. - Official website
