It's hard to follow up on albums like "The Satanist" and "I Loved You At Your Darkest", in which Behemoth offered a striking occult sound. Since then, the band has grown even more, reaching the level of headliners at major festivals. Behemoth is becoming more and more sophisticated and moving away from its extreme bases while keeping its dark side.

The challenge of "Opvs Contra Natvram" is to see if the band stays on the dark side without giving in to repetition and ease. Thematically, the band remains rebellious by opposing social networks and a morality that dictates our lives. The opus is short and presents two complementary facets.

Behemoth proposes an intimate sound tinged with a ceremonial side. The intro 'Post-God Nirvana' gives the feeling of attending a black mass with a haunting tune and a Nergal as a chilling and storytelling master of ceremony. With 'Ov My Herculean Exile' and 'Off To War!', melancholic and theatrical, we find a concentrate of black metal art, a kind of soundtrack of the apocalypse. We must also greet the soli in an epic black death spirit. 'Versvs Christvs' is a piano procession carried by a blood-curdling vocal. The dark and melancholic side takes over before an apocalyptic finale that sticks to the wall.

The balance of power comes from brutal tracks that see Behemoth hitting hard. 'Malaria Vvlgata', 'Neo-Spartacvs', 'Disinheritance' and 'Thy Becoming Eternal' are violent and intense slaps in a black metal tone with a possessed Nergal and furious instrumental parts.

"Opvs Contra Natvram" is another great and beautiful album. Behemoth offers a remarkable retrospective of his art by being at the same time storyteller, catchy and brutal. The opponents can go back to the shadows, the decline is still not there for the Polish formation.

OTHER REVIEWS
FOO FIGHTERS: Foo Fighters (1995)
ROCK - Cathartic album from Dave Grohl after the death of Kurt Cobain, this "Foo Fighters" neither good nor bad is not an ideal entry to appreciate the work of this one-man band which will become a real band as soon as the following album.
THE WHITE BUFFALO: Year Of The Dark Horse (2022)
ROCK - The White Buffalo succeeds once again in proposing a surprising work with "Year Of The Dark Horse", concept-album dealing with the seasons in parallel with the evolution of a relationship.
