By offering "Evolution" in 2018, Disturbed had made a strong artistic choice. The American formation completed its moult with a melodic record, essentially tinged with acoustic rock, and had put its mascot back in the closet. The success was certain and the band took its time before coming back with an eighth album, "Divisive".

Listening to the band's leader, David Draiman, the pandemic and the general world situation made him angry and influenced the writing. The first strong sign is the return of the mascot The Guy on the cover, with an obvious warrior feel. Draiman has confided that he has given quite a few keys to his guitarist Dan Donegan, and this will prove true.

On a good half of the tracks, Disturbed kicks ass with energy. The tone is neo groovy, not far from Korn for 'Unstoppable', with powerful vocals and a beautiful orgy of guitars. Dan enjoys himself and throws a number of riffs and boiling soli, the choruses are effective and we can imagine all this setting will fire any pit. On 'Feeding The Fire' the tone is even close to thrash with a Draiman close to Nevermore.

The band has not turned its back on its melodic inclination. But there too, metal makes a place for itself: the catchy refrains are in tune with a stirring neo metal. The mix between power and melody is impeccable. Only 'Don't Tell Me' gives the listener a little respite. With Heart's Ann Wilson, the band signs a remarkable power ballad, Draiman's veiled vocals blending well with the catchy and emotional one of the famous singer.

With "Divisive", Disturbed recaptures the sound and colors of the "Ten Thousands Fists" era and will delight their fans. It shows an impressive chameleon side by being able to find such a fiery spirit so easily. It also shows a remarkable cohesion of group which one feels at each moment of the album.

MILLENIUM (POL): Tales From Imaginary Movies (2022)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With "Tales From Imaginary Movies", Millenium drags the listener once again in a neo progressive rock universe, certainly well marked out, but so pleasant to apprehend that one would already dare to ask for the next one.
SUPERDOWNHOME: Blues Pyromaniacs (2022)
ROCK - Even if Superdownhome doesn't invent anything, "Blues Pyromaniacs" is an efficient, warm and comforting album, halfway between blues and rock.
