Present on the rock planet for about fifteen years, the Artic Monkeys come back in this year 2022 with a seventh album soberly entitled "The Car", for which the band led by Alex Turner appears to be a thousand miles away from the roaring compositions of its beginnings.

From the start of this new production, 'Big Ideas' sets the scene: the warm and bewitching voice of the frontman evolving in crooner mode is highlighted with a sober piano accompaniment, quickly joined by orchestrations where strings and horns are mixed in all sobriety. Atmosphere jazz club or romantic concert hall, here is a beginning which augurs of a tasty galette requiring a certain attention to enjoy it fully. The continuation confirms this beautiful semi-acoustic orientation, first of all on the magnificent 'Body Paint' where the instrumentation in the background offers multiple themes to the attentive ears rocked by the bass or the strings while the melody reminds the Beatles, but also on a 'Mr Schwarz' carried by a classicizing acoustic guitar before a bossa nova atmosphere comes to enrich there still a captivating melody.

These languorous ambiences are however crossed by some lightning slightly shifted compared to the whole. We can thus mention 'Hello You' and its cheerful rhythmic carried by acoustic percussions, but also the following track and its funky beginning in Earth Wind and Fire mode, while 'Sculptures of Anything Goes' unfolds four worrying minutes during which the experimental accompaniment seems to come straight out of "Rage in Eden" from Ultravox.

"The Car" concludes with a track that sums up the whole album: a repetitive gimmick in accompaniment supported by a offbeat rhythmic completed by some percussions, on which are deployed many strings serving as a support to a typical melody "corner of the fire" taking us subtly towards a sweet end.

An album with an introspective music, "The Car" offers us a collection of melodic pearls for which a particular attention is required to integrate all the flavor. Ambiance by the fire in winter, a glass of wine at hand for the Artic Monkeys whose commercial appeal of its compositions seems to be the least of its worries, for the greatest happiness of those who will make the effort to adhere to the subject.
