NIGHT DEMON: Outsider (HEAVY METAL): review / opinion to read on Music Waves

Just a few months after the release of "Year Of The Demon", the Californian trio Night Demon surfs on its popular success and releases "Outsider", the first real album of original tracks of the combo since five years. Largely inspired by the NWOBHM, the band is part of this wave advocating a roots heavy Metal inspired by the eighties.

The album starts slowly with 'Prelude' which introduces the eponymous track, a hard rock piece reminding of the very first albums of the Iron Maiden with an expressive and raging vocal rocked by a fast and intoxicating rhythmic. The small break giving in the doom and followed by a very Black Sabbath-like solo poses the beginnings of a continuation which will slip towards the seventies by leering at the side of the band to Iommy.

In this same register, 'Obsidian' undulates around a Thin Lizzy-like riff with an unstoppable efficiency, just like 'Rebirth' with a sound close to the first efforts of Pretty Maids during their first EP. The common point of these tracks is their solo once again in rhythmic rupture with the rest of each of the two tracks. But Night Demon still digs in the fertile ground of the Black Sabbath style Doom with 'The Wrath' and 'Beyond the Grave', two slow tracks, heavy as one could wish, with very low tuned guitars, a throbbing and barked vocal and typical sounds of the 70's Sab'. Armand Anthony's soli are also tributes to Tommy Iommy and his harmonic break with his characteristic saturated style.

With "Outsider", Night Demon takes a new step in their revivalist exploration of heavy metal by going straight to the source. The Black Sabbath lovers will appreciate these compositions in the form of homage while the amateurs of raw Heavy Metal will be seduced by the more direct and raised titles. - Official website
