The mix of horror and rock has always had a good relationship, whether with Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie. The genre has always had a loyal audience and just as many detractors. Not Bad follows in this vein, while developing a humorous side.
Not Bad offers an alternative metal sound based on otherworldly riffs that are sure to awaken the dead. To achieve their aims, the trio doesn't fall into the "delirium" trap thanks to solid compositions and an interpretation that suffers no weaknesses. Behind this second-degree aspect lies a fine musical mastery integrating into its compositions certain pop aspects (the chorus of 'Love On The Deathfloor') and a theatrical or even cinematographic Romero touch ('Prime Time, Bitch'), which add relief to the project.
The album offers plenty to thrill, with the use of samples adding an immersive edge ('Hell-o! Did That Groove', 'Children Of Gotham' or 'March Of The Monsters'). In the midst of these many tracks (15), 'Pussy Poker' stands out, playing with jazz and frantic rock atmospheres, as does the long 'March Of The Monsters', with its irresistible chorus and quasi-instrumental ending. Not Bad also evokes the Rocky Horror Picture Show in 'Spooky, Baby', which presents itself as a horrific parody of "West Side Story".
Despite the sheer number of tracks, "Spook Up Your Life" provides plenty of variety, so as not to bore you throughout its 50 minutes. Not Bad delivers a solid album that shows the band's unrivalled ability to create jouissive dark atmospheres that capture the attention of a horror-movie and metal-loving audience. - Official website
