Formed at the dawn of the 1990s, Carcariass is a cult band on the French extreme scene. From the outset? their music has been intense and technical, embracing the sounds of the times. Constant in the quality of its records, its evolving music is guided by a great perfectionism. "Afterworld", a vision of a devastated futuristic world, blends violence, gentleness, technology, power and rage. Carcariass assert their supreme power and establish their position as an essential French death band.

The album is a disillusioned assessment of the modern world, with powerful riffs, percussive drums and hybrid industrial elements, reinforced by unstoppable technique and racy guitar melodies, sometimes underlined by a cold, cyber-metal synthetic coating ('No Aftermath' or the superb 'Afterworld'). Carcariass injects a healthy dose of modernity into its industrial vision of dark art. The mechanical aspect is supported by vocals that are sometimes martial and square, in the tradition of S.U.P. or Rammstein ('Identity'). Anger is the focus of the record, a salvific anger softened by haunting melodies ('Identity', 'Fall Of An Empire' or 'Afterworld' with its superb, mysterious arpeggios). Everything fits together logically and naturally to produce captivating compositions full of energy and groove.

Progressive buds sprout here and there, underlined by subtle rhythmic changes ('Fall Of An Empire'), successful instrumental digressions and icy climates with crystalline synthetic notes, leading to captivating, intense labyrinth tracks ('Machine Kult'). In this respect, 'Afterworld' is a master stroke, a track with multiple evolutions, strong melodies, moving arpeggios and surprising shred passages. It's a sublime way to round off an album that's been a success from start to finish.

Everything is good in the troubled, rough and unhealthy world of Carcariass. The band's score is superb, transcended by genuine, palpable emotion. "Afterworld" is a great record, a mix of technical spikes, straightforward riffs and convoluted songs. Rock-solid, coherent and homogeneous, it reveals superb mastery and an ease that will make any musician green with envy. A must for the genre!

IMPERIUM: Never Surrender (2023)
A.O.R. - Imperium remains true to form with "Never Surrender", an elegantly old-fashioned AOR album.
ENFORCER: Nostalgia (2023)
HEAVY METAL - "Nostalgia" is a fresh, uplifting record that's as much kick-ass speed metal as it is catchy, epic heavy metal.
