"Third EP by Fabien Guy who continues the Courroux adventure with the regularity and sound experimentation that characterise him."

We no longer need to introduce Fabien Guy, the guardian of the Courroux temple but also composer of Los Ojos Carnivoros and Liqueur Brune. The one-man band presents chapter 3 of Courroux with the regularity of a Swiss cuckoo clock, each EP being recorded every two years.

Each Courroux album takes the trajectory of a speeding car on a steep mountain road plunging into the night and skirting a lake below. This journey is never a smooth one, as the music mixes a wide variety of atmospheres and genres. Courroux thus appears as a successful patchwork between alternative rock, electro, cold wave and sometimes folk.

There are no major upheavals on this "Courroux III", we remain in the continuity established by the previous records. The electro aspect of 'Neons' and 'Puerto Rico Is Dark' is combined with a restless rock (the second one brings in some South American percussions). The marriage between hot and cold is very well done by the man who became a wizard on 'Before The Slope'. The soft piano melody softens the crushing guitars in a more accomplished way than on the previous 'L'Orient Éternel'. The general atmosphere is heavy but not depressing, in a spirit sometimes close to Lilium. The rhythms are certainly rather minimalist and repetitive but Fabien Guy knows how to introduce drama and progression.

However, we'll regret some easy effects on 'So Long Is The End', the track being parasitized by a sample of dialogue, Fabien Guy is not the first and the last to use this artificial subterfuge, whose impact declines after each listening. As this is an EP, the journey seems inevitably too short, especially after the unstoppable 'Aube De Bleus' which closes the album. If Courroux's existence is only due to its fleeting nature, this choice is quite regrettable.

Despite these frustrating flaws, this third EP by Courroux is quite successful. Fabien Guy invites us to travel through melancholic lands on which a little ray of sunshine sometimes shines. Let yourself be taken in hand by the master of Courroux for a journey as eventful as enriching.

REDEMPTION (USA): I Am The Storm (2023)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - With "I Am The Storm", Redemption does not revolutionize the genre but gives its fans a solid progressive metal album in the purest tradition of the 2000s.
NANOWAR OF STEEL: Dislike To False Metal (2023)
HEAVY METAL - This 'Dislike To False Metal' from Nanowar Of Steel is a pure fantasy that takes pleasure in parodying many of the styles of the Heavy Metal world.
