Two years ago, the second album of the Swedes of Creye had disappointed us a bit. Indeed, the good-natured AOR of the first opus had left too much room for the pop intentions, which had been discreet until then. Lacking punch, the work left the impression of a band hesitating on the path to take. At the beginning of this frigid year, here comes "III: Weightless". Since the announcement of its release, the followers of the Scandinavian band's first steps have been crossing their fingers, hoping that the band found again their former enthusiasm.
Let's reassure them right now, this third part is much more striking than its big brother. But don't think that Creye has built a work close to those proposed by their compatriots of Eclipse, Crowne or W.E.T.. The band keeps its pop influences but this time they are enhanced by vigorous melodic hard rock eruptions on most of the eleven tracks offered on this new effort. So much so that "III: Weightless" is even more successful than the band's first try. Enlightened by often pop synth interventions, magnified by strong choirs, framed by modern riffs and elegant solos, each track is thus easily embedded in the mind.
This collection of hits, coupled with an absence of weak moments, makes it particularly difficult to single out one of them but we can however quote 'Air' and its diversified ambiences reminding us 7th Crystal, to which we'll add the percussive 'Spreading Fire' and 'Weightless', which remind One Desire. Finally, let's mention 'In The Shadows', which is close to the compositions of the most energetic of Creye's compatriots.
The band seems to have found its way on this "III: Weightless". Forgetting the shortcomings of the previous album and erasing the imperfections of the first one, Creye offers this year a nice gift to the modern melodic hard rock fans.
