Alienatör is a trio that comes from Canada, a country that always offers great discoveries. The band offers a first album heavy with meaning entitled "Regrets". The intriguing cover shows an old photo of what we guess is a couple with a child whose faces are erased by punches or bullets. The atmosphere is set...
Of heaviness, it will be a question of it all along these eleven tracks which aim to probe the abyss of our mind and the beast which lives there. Alienatör proposes a hardcore mixed with sludge which seems to be ideal for this unusual experience. To make the "monster" come out of our unconscious, the trio operates a rhythmic bludgeoning with a bass widely put forward and fat riffs ('The Priest'). Everything here is built around the oppression to lock us in a suffocating caran. Some themes also contribute to establish this atmosphere as the revisionism ('Revisionist History').
The band however does not completely lock itself in this mixture sludge - hardcore and integrates in several compositions doses of punk ('Blood Red Blood') or even more "silent" moments which bring a breath of air in this descent to hell ('Regrets', 'The Priest'). Sometimes, it is the heavy which seems to take the lead in order to accentuate this leaden power which sinks us ('Irreconcilable'). In spite of this certain urgency aiming at the effectiveness, the trio does not forget to develop some passages leaving only the instruments to express themselves to let the listener face himself and his own demons ('Dark Matter').
"Regrets", with its formidable production, is an album with an exacerbated cathartic essence which succeeds in its objective of being the expression of a certain malaise which often has difficulty in getting out. Alieanatör thus offers us a kind of psychotherapy of 38 minutes which will leave nobody unscathed. - Official website
