Three years after a well-made "Rise", Revolution Saints are back with "Eagle Flight", their fourth production. The frontman-drummer Deen Castronovo is still at the top of the bill, having recently returned to the drums with Journey. However, he has lost his two companions along the way since the Aldritch/Blades pair has been replaced by the Hoekstra (Whitesnake)/Pilson (Foreigner) duo.
However, The Saints have not made their revolution. The observation of stagnation is undeniable. However, it deserves that we linger on its origins. Alessandro Del Vecchio is the architect of the compositions since the birth of the project, and this stakhanovist from Frontiers writes for the combo as if he was working for Journey. Added to this constant is the fact that Castronovo is a fan of the latter and has a vocal range close to that of his late singer Steve Perry. It is therefore hardly surprising that Revolution Saints sounds like the American dinosaur.
From then on, the ten tracks on the album are caviar for the lovers of friendly melodicities and succulent choruses full of multilayered harmonies. At the same time muscular and soft, 'Talking To Strangers', 'Need Each Other', 'Once More' and other 'Set Yourself Free', without forgetting the eponymous title to quote only those, are so many hits which could sparkle in the playlist of any hard rock fan. If the project is obviously Castronovo's, Joel Hoekstra allows himself to put his trademark on it for the greatest pleasure of the fans of this elegant guitarist, notably on the strong Thin Lizzy-like 'Save It All'.
Without abandoning its automatisms nor curbing its influences, Revolution Saints assumes to do again the trick of its previous albums with this "Eagle Flight", probably darker and more melancholic than its elders. Hyper-addictive and full of delightful six-strings, it will undoubtedly be in the final pack of the best productions of the genre this year. - Official website
